Camelback Mountain photo emulsion screen prints in black on red-orange and white
Photo Emulsion Screen Print

Camelback Mountain

A photographic screen print of Arizona’s Camelback Mountain, made from a photo I took on location.

This print began as my own photograph of Camelback Mountain in Arizona. The image was converted into a high-contrast, black-and-white positive and printed onto transparency film, turning the landscape into bold areas of solid black that could be transferred to a screen.

In the darkroom, the screen was coated with light-sensitive photo emulsion and left to dry away from light. The transparency was then placed against the screen and exposed to UV light: the emulsion hardened wherever light passed through, while the black areas of the film blocked the light and left the emulsion soft. Rinsing the screen with water washed the unexposed emulsion away, leaving open mesh in the exact shape of the image.

Ink was then pulled through the stencil with a squeegee by hand, one sheet at a time. Most of the prints were made in two colors: a layer of red-orange ink was printed first, and the black mountain was printed on top. A few were printed in black alone on white paper, showing how the same stencil can take on a completely different mood depending on color.

Shadow + Daisy screen prints of a white cat and a black cat on a green background
Screen Print · Edition of 10

Shadow + Daisy

A limited-edition print of two cats, one white and one black, inspired by the flat, graphic style of ancient Egyptian art.

Drawing on ancient Egyptian art, where figures appear in strict side profile with flat color and simplified, graphic silhouettes, Shadow + Daisy portrays two cats as bold, stylized shapes with no shading or perspective.

The white cat and the black cat overlap so that each shape defines the other, forming a yin-and-yang relationship of light and dark, opposites in balance. A limited palette of green, black, and white keeps the composition simple and lets the contrast between the two cats carry the piece.

The print was produced as a hand-pulled, signed and numbered edition of 10.

Pulse of the Ocean screen prints of a koi fish in offset red and blue layers
Screen Print · Edition of 10

Pulse of the Ocean

A koi fish logo of my own design, printed in intentionally offset layers to create a three-dimensional effect.

Pulse of the Ocean is built around a koi fish mark I designed, coiled into a circular form that suggests movement and the rhythm of water.

The design was printed in separate red and blue layers that were intentionally misregistered, so the two colors sit slightly off from one another. The offset creates a vibrating, three-dimensional effect reminiscent of 3D anaglyph imagery, turning what is usually considered a printing error into the defining feature of the piece.

Because each layer was pulled by hand, the offset varies slightly from print to print, making every sheet in this signed and numbered edition of 10 unique.
